Band C property values: use 1991, not today’s prices
The £68,000 upper boundary is the estimated sale value on 1 April 1991. It is not a cap on what a C property could sell for now. A modern price above that figure is therefore not, by itself, evidence of an incorrect band.
C sits above the £52,000 end of B and below D, which starts at £68,001. Read the England Council Tax valuation ranges if an old document or property listing uses a value without making the date clear.

Council Tax band C monthly payments: ten or twelve instalments?
There is no national monthly C price. At the 2026/27 England average, band C is about £2,126 a year: ten equal instalments would be £212.62, while twelve would be about £177.19. Your actual bill can differ through local rates, reductions, a part-year liability or the payment arrangement.
When comparing an online figure with your bank statement, check whether the figure is annual, a tenth of the year or a twelfth. A change in instalment size does not necessarily represent a change in the property assessment. Your council’s issued bill is the source for the amount due.
My neighbour is in band B — is my C band wrong?
A lower neighbouring band is a starting point for checking, not proof of an error. Establish whether the properties are genuinely comparable, including their location, type, age and size. A larger extension, different layout or a separate flat can make a casual comparison misleading.
If you have relevant evidence, follow the free Council Tax band challenge process. A review is not guaranteed to reduce a bill and can result in a higher band. Do not request one solely because a £100 payment has been announced.
Does Council Tax band C fall within the £100 payment scope?
Yes, C is in England’s announced A–D group. It goes to the person liable for Council Tax on their main home; Direct Debit payers are paid automatically. Use the £100 payment checker for your household’s next step and read the payment-date guide before relying on a specific day.
