£100 energy payment dates: the announced timeline

  1. 28 October 2026: the Autumn Budget announced £100 support for households in England in bands A–D.
  2. 28 October 2026: GOV.UK confirmed the payment goes to households liable for Council Tax on their main home, that Direct Debit payers will be paid automatically and that others will be invited to apply.
  3. Before payments begin: full criteria and each council’s instructions for non-Direct Debit households are still to be published.
  4. From January 2027: the announced payment window begins. Your household’s individual date has not been confirmed.

Is there an exact payment date?

No individual payment date or council-by-council schedule has been verified for this guide as at 29 October 2026.

Do not plan around a specific day based on this website. Check official updates and your local council’s website. A start month can cover different local schedules and does not establish a deadline for your payment.

Will the £100 be paid automatically by Direct Debit?

Yes. GOV.UK says households in bands A–D who pay Council Tax by Direct Debit need to do nothing: the money will be paid directly into their bank account from January 2027.

If you pay another way — cash, card, bank transfer or standing order — your council will invite you to apply. Councils have not yet published how; watch your council’s own website and post. Do not send account information in response to a text or social media message.

How the 2022 £150 Council Tax rebate was paid

The 2026/27 rules confirmed so far — Direct Debit payers paid automatically, others invited to apply — follow the same pattern as 2022. The 2022 details below are history, not this scheme’s rules.

In 2022, most households in bands A–D received a £150 Council Tax energy rebate from their council. Second homes, houses in multiple occupation and empty properties were excluded. In Cornwall, for example, Direct Debit payers who passed pre-payment checks were paid straight into their bank account, and the council later credited remaining households’ Council Tax accounts (Cornwall Council).

Councils may handle the £100 differently from 2022. Never respond to a text asking you to “register” for it.

What you can do now

  • Find your registered Council Tax band.
  • Check whose name appears on your bill.
  • Keep your bill handy and watch your council’s official updates.
  • Ignore claims of a paid “priority application” service.

This website does not process payments or applications. If money has not arrived when your council says it should, contact the council through its own published contact details.

Dates elsewhere in the UK

Wales has announced its own A–D payment; its dates must be confirmed separately. See our Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland guides rather than applying England’s January window across the UK.

Questions about the payment date

What is the £100 energy payment date?

England’s £100 Household Energy Payment has been announced from January 2027. No exact date has been published for any council, and households may be paid at different times.

Will everyone be paid on 1 January 2027?

No such date has been confirmed. From January 2027 is an announced start window for England, not a guaranteed individual payment day.

Do I need to apply for the £100 energy payment?

Not if you pay Council Tax by Direct Debit — it is paid automatically. If you pay another way, your council will invite you to apply. This website cannot take applications.

I don’t pay by Direct Debit. When will I get it?

After your council invites you to apply and you send your details through its official website. Councils have not published timetables yet.

Is the £100 energy payment the same as the £150 payment?

No. The £100 Household Energy Payment is new support for England bands A–D. The £150 Warm Home Discount is a separate electricity bill discount for people on certain benefits, and the £150 Council Tax rebate was a one-off scheme in 2022.
